The United Kingdom Association of Fire Investigators at their annual conference in January awarded prizes for the best / most informative photography by their members.
The UK-AFI, like many other photographic contests, use a MediaFiler Digital Media Library to both run the entire contest –from submission to judging – but all the entries have merit and help build the UK-AFI archive of fire images for training & internal fire safety related presentations.
The use of a Digital Assert Management system is the first step to building up a unique archive.
MediaFiler can host most digital formats and below we can see one of the winning entries by Mike Burroughs from Fire Investigations (UK) LLP who supplied indivdual stills and this combined video clip of the effect of water on a simple tea light candle that most of have in our homes that has undergone full surface ignition due to double wicking. There is only about 5 grams of burning wax and 15 ml of water.
Headline Image above and here on the left by James Acott, also from Fire Investigations (UK) LLP – During the investigation of a fire in one premises it became necessary to document the quantity of fire retardant solution that remained in this container. By placing a portable light source behind the container meant that the remaining product glowed yellow and the quantity could be visually recorded. The image colours have not been digitally enhanced or altered.
